Beitostølen Health Sports Center strengthens services for children and young people

January 1, 2026

From 1 January 2026, Beitostølen Health Sports Centre (BHSS) will receive a significantly strengthened agreement with South-Eastern Health. The new agreement involves a 30% increase in the framework for rehabilitation/habilitation services for children, adolescents and young adults, a clear recognition of the centre's expertise and quality.

– We are incredibly proud to have received an agreement that gives us the opportunity to focus even more on children, youth and young adults. This is a strong confirmation of the quality of our work, and gives us inspiration to further develop the offer for the future, says Director Astrid Nyquist.

The expanded agreement enables BHSS to further develop its unique concept of adapted physical activity, family involvement and education, – from the youngest children of 2 years to young adults up to 30 years. This strengthens the center's position as a leading player in Health Sports and rehabilitation/habilitation in Norway.

However, this "victory" comes with a downside, Nyquist points out.

Because while BHSS receives increased funding for children and young people, the new agreement also involves a change: South Eastern Health has chosen to prioritize primary rehabilitation over health sports for adults over 30. This means that BHSS will no longer have a direct agreement for this age group if they are domiciled in South Eastern Health.

– We would like to continue to offer services to all age groups from all over the country, but we have seen this development over time. Our goal is that everyone – regardless of function, age, ethnicity and place of residence – should have equal rights and opportunities for activity and participation throughout their lives, says Nyquist.

She emphasizes that the services offered at BHSS are of great importance to many:

– We see every day how our services help people complete their education, find employment and find their place in social life. It is very regrettable that people over 30 now have significantly fewer opportunities and a more difficult situation. This is a group we have had the pleasure of meeting and following for many years, and who have contributed to shaping the center's identity and professional development. We know that the needs are still there, and we hope that in the future there will be solutions that once again include this important group.

A solid foundation for the future

The new agreements with the regional health authorities give Beitostølen Helsesportsenter a good basis for further operations and professional development. It was a relieved director who was able to share the news with employees, the board and the user committee on Wednesday. Although the center's profile will now change somewhat, the core business, expertise and ambitions remain the same.
