Family stay

Through the family program, we want to strengthen the family's competence and ability to support the child or youth in activities in the local community. Therefore, guardians and siblings of all ages are invited to participate in the last week of the three-week rehabilitation/habilitation stay.
During this period, the family stays free of charge at the health and sports center and is accommodated in apartments in our "family house".

Organization and content

Family stays are based on our regular offer.

  • The stay lasts 3 weeks.

  • 3-5 organized activity sessions with professional teams every day.
In addition, the leisure department offers optional activities and a social program in the evenings and on weekends.

  • The offer is individually tailored, but is mainly organized in groups with a focus on activity testing and skill learning.

  • All children and young people have their own companion, usually a mother or father, during their entire stay. We focus on guidance and exchange of experiences with guardians, for the best possible transfer to activities in the home environment.

  • During the last week of the stay, siblings and parents/guardians participate in activities together with the child who is on stay, in addition to Siblings in Focus and Parents in Focus .

  • Local professionals are invited to attend professional days at Beitostølen Health Sports Center during their stay. Read more about the professional days .

Focus on the whole family being active together. This includes training in their own skills, testing activity aids and knowledge about how activities can be adapted.

In addition to daytime activities, we arrange leisure activities for the whole family in the evenings.

We would like to point out that we unfortunately do not have the opportunity to offer horseback riding to siblings and guardians.

Gatherings where siblings can be active together and have fun in a safe environment. The goal is to create a community where they can meet others in similar situations, share experiences and talk about thoughts and feelings.
Siblings should experience being at the center; – being seen, heard and recognized.

During family week, two sessions with "Siblings in Focus" are organized, led by professional personnel.

Discussion group where parents have the opportunity to share experiences and experiences related to having a child with a disability. It facilitates reflection on their own situation, with a focus on what gives energy in everyday life - and what takes energy.
The group leaders emphasize hope and coping strategies, while also providing space to express difficult feelings in a safe community.

During family week, two sessions of "Parents in Focus" are offered, led by professional personnel.

We provide facilities so that siblings of primary school age can complete necessary schoolwork while they are with us.
It is important that both the work plan and necessary school supplies are included.
