Beitostølen Health Sports Center, in collaboration with the National Center for Rare Diagnoses (formerly TRS Competence Center), arranges family stays for children and adolescents with spina bifida.
Family stay for children and adolescents with spina bifida
Target group: Children aged 5 -17 years who have spina bifida. The offer is suitable for children and young people who can physically and socially benefit from a group-based offer. Participants from all over the country can apply for a stay.
Period of stay: 21.10.26 - 10.11.26. Guardians and siblings are invited to participate in the last week of the stay (3-10 November).
Application deadline: Places will be awarded on a rolling basis until June 1, 2026.
Objectives and instruments
The overall goal of the service is to create a basis for increased activity and participation in one's own local environment. Through adapted physical activity, - combined with medical, educational and social support, the child/youth is given tools to challenge their own limits and create new areas of mastery. Furthermore, the family service will strengthen the family's competence and prerequisites for supporting the child/youth in activities in the local environment.
Organization and content
3-5 organized activity sessions with a professional team every day. In addition, the leisure department offers optional activities and a social program in the evenings and on weekends.
The offer is individually tailored, but is mainly organized in groups with a focus on activity testing and skill learning.
All children and young people have their own companion, usually their mother or father, during the entire stay. The rest of the family (guardians and siblings) are invited to participate in the last week of the stay (November 3-10). Read more about the content of the family week.

Referral/application
A general practitioner or specialist health care provider can apply for a stay at Beitostølen Health Sports Center. The application must contain a referring diagnosis, complete medical information, an updated medication list, previous medical history and goals for the stay. A good description of the participant's physical and cognitive functional level, companion needs and special psychosocial conditions that may affect the rehabilitation stay is also requested. The application must be marked "Family stay for children and adolescents with spina bifida".
Please note that any vacant places in the group after the application deadline have expired will be allocated to children with other diagnoses.
