Winter activity course for visually impaired children

We are organizing our annual "Winter Activity Course for Visually Impaired Children" in the period February 17 - March 9, 2027.

Target group: Visually impaired children aged 5 -10 years. The offer is suitable for children who can physically and socially benefit from a group-based offer. Children from all over the country can apply to participate.

Period of stay: 17.02.27 - 09.03.27

Application deadline: Places will be awarded on a rolling basis until October 15, 2026.

Objectives and instruments

The overall goal of the program is to create a foundation for increased activity and participation in one's own local environment. Through adapted physical activity, combined with medical, educational and social support, the child is given the tools to challenge their own limits and create new arenas for mastery.

Organization and content

  • 3-5 organized activity sessions with a professional team every day. In addition, the leisure department offers optional activities and a social program in the evenings and on weekends.

  • The course is individually tailored, but is mainly organized in groups with a focus on activity testing and skill learning. Basic skiing and winter activities will be the main content of the course.

  • All children and young people have their own companion, usually a mother or father, during their entire stay. We focus on guidance and exchange of experiences with guardians, for the best possible transfer to activities in the home environment.

  • Local professionals are invited to participate in professional days at Beitostølen Health Sports Center March 3-5, 2027.

Referral/application

A general practitioner or specialist health care provider can apply for a stay at Beitostølen Health Sports Center. The application must contain a referring diagnosis, complete medical information, an updated medication list, previous medical history and goals for the stay. A good description of the participant's physical and cognitive functional level, companion needs and special psychosocial conditions that may affect the rehabilitation stay is also requested. The application must be marked "Winter activity course for visually impaired children".

Please note that any vacant places in the group after the application deadline have expired will be allocated to older children with visual impairments or children with other diagnoses.
