Before stay

Before you come to stay with us, you may have a few questions. Hopefully, you can find some answers here.

It is important that you let us know within the response deadline whether you accept the offered stay or not. You do this by returning the completed response slip and questionnaire .

Beitostølen Health Sports Center has its own school department that offers maintenance education for upper secondary school students.

Prior to the stay, a form is sent to the student's local school, via the user. It is desirable that the high school at home returns this completed, including prioritization of subjects/subject areas for the period at Beitostølen Health Sports Center.

If possible, the student should bring their own school computer, current textbooks and any special equipment that the student uses in class.

Clothes you need to bring:

  • Workout clothes and shoes for indoor and outdoor use.

  • Outdoor clothing adapted to the season; warm and windproof clothing, shoes for outdoor activities. Rainwear, mittens and a hat can be used for all seasons.

  • Swimwear and possibly swimming shoes/socks for use in the pool. If you need a swim diaper or swim pants for incontinence, you must bring these.

  • If you want to shower/change in your own room instead of in the shared locker rooms when going to the pool, you should also bring a bathrobe.

  • Regular clothes for everyday use.

You do not need to bring bed linen and towels.

We have our own self-service laundromats that can be used throughout your stay.

Aids and other things you need to bring:

  • Manual and/or electric wheelchair. If you use an electric wheelchair, but do not have the opportunity to bring it with you during your stay, you must contact the Assistive Devices Centre in Gjøvik to borrow an electric wheelchair for the period (Tel. 55 55 11 11). The Assistive Devices Centre will then arrange to deliver/pick up the chair at Beitostølen Helsesportsenter

  • Bicycles during the bare-ground season and ski equipment during the winter. This also applies to companions and guardians. Many people share the equipment we have for loan, so it is a great advantage if you bring your own equipment! Also bring other relevant activity aids - if you have them.

  • Any special equipment for use in connection with personal care/natural functions/hygiene.

  • Regular medications for use during your stay.

  • Any new medical information/epicrits, description of X-rays and report from a physiotherapist or others.

Have you worked in healthcare or received healthcare outside the Nordic region in the last 12 months?
By healthcare we mean, for example, hospitalization, extensive outpatient treatment or dental treatment. If so , your GP must test you for bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics (such as MRSA).
Ask your GP to send you the test results well in advance of your appointment with us.

Beitostølen Health Sports Center is located in Øystre Slidre municipality in Valdres, 230 km northwest of Oslo (image/map).

Travel expenses

The main rule for patient travel is that the patient is covered at a standard rate per kilometer round trip to and from the treatment site. You arrange the travel yourself and send the travel expense form, with receipts and confirmation of admission, to Patient Travel after the stay. You will receive the travel expense form at the reception when you arrive at BHSS.

If you are unable to take scheduled transport or use a private car for health reasons, you must contact your GP to request a referral for adapted transport. The lack of scheduled transport may also give you the right to a referral.

Travel expenses in connection with escort shifts are usually not covered.

Contact Pasientreiser on tel. 915 05 515 or visit www.pasientreiser.no for more information about travel and transportation.

Upon arrival, everyone must report to the reception for registration.

At the start of your stay, we would like you to arrive between 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

It is important that the arrival date is respected. If you are late, please inform the nurse as soon as possible.

Parents who accompany children with disabilities or long-term illness are entitled to education allowance if they have a fixed wage income during the period. Usually, the employer pays the salary and receives a refund from NAV. Self-employed people also receive education allowance from the first day, the calculation basis is the same as for sickness benefit. Education allowance can also be granted after the child has turned 18.

If you are entitled to training allowance, you submit an electronic application to NAV after your stay has ended. You will receive the medical certificate that must be attached during your stay.

Other people with care responsibilities/functions other than the child's guardians may also be approved for education allowance, for example a parent who does not live with the child, the partner of the person who is solely responsible for the care, and grandparents. Approval for others than parents must be agreed with NAV before the stay begins.
More information about training grants can be found at www.nav.no.

Patients have the right to sick leave during their stay. This is usually arranged by your GP.
If you need a sick note from a doctor at Beitostølen Health Sports Center, you will contact the doctor in connection with the arrival interview.

Only guide dogs and service dogs are allowed to stay with you during your stay. This must be arranged in advance.
